The New Andy?

I never got the chance to tell him how on the mark he was and what a compliment it was, but JBH said something to me very profound once. In asking me about my humor on the internet, I was explaining that I basically act like a sarcastic wiseass and that I really don't mean 99% of what I say or post about. That it's all just for off the wall humor's sake. (The friend rankings for instance).

He then said to me, "So, it's kind of like an Andy Kaufman like thing."

I had never thought of it that way, but that is totally accurate. Basically I try to do humor where I never wink at the audience and let them know it's all a joke. I just count on either their intelligence or the fact that they know me and know I'm actually a nice person in the real world. Andy Kaufman did some bizarre stuff, and NEVER would let on that it was all a joke. From his "tony clifton" persona, to his wrestling shenanigans that led to a famous Letterman Show appearance that no one realized was a setup.

Now, in no way do I think I'm as out there as Kaufman, but I do think the analogy by JBH was a good one.
