Throw me the Idol, I throw you the whip

I normally just watch the awful audition process of American Idol, and then when they get down to the actual good singers, (final 10 or 12 or whatever) I stop watching. The show is just too full of product placement and fluff designed just to waste time so they can have more shows and sell more ads.
But I will keep checking in to see how Taylor Hicks is doing. He's this grey haired joe cocker like dude that could pass for being 45.....but I guess he's under 30.
I'm just curious how far he makes it.
The nerdy dude (some call chicken little).... I would like it for someone like him to go far, since he's not the prototypical hunky boy band guy. But he just can't sing very good.
Why is it only good looking people can sing great? Why can't we have some ugly bastard topping the charts? (I'm sure I'll get reminded of numerous attractively-challenged people who have hit it huge).
But by and large, it seems like every beautiful actress, can also sing great as well, just as a lark........Gwenyth Paltrow, Nicole Kidman, Lindsay Lohan, etc.

I know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I didn't mean to go off on that tangent, and yet I'm hitting the publish post button anyway......
